"I like a dessert to make me feel slightly guilty about eating it, but not enough to make me stop." Susie Kelly
The 2nd instalment of the travel author's delightful round-ups of her favourite quick, simple, easy recipes, sprinkled with anecdote and humour.
Susie makes no claims to being a cooking queen. She admits that over the years she has made every cookery mistake possible, including pouring hot oil back into a plastic bottle and watching the bottle melt and flood most of the kitchen. Then there was the great icing sugar misunderstanding.... but in The Lazy Cook she has put together an irresistible collection of the tasty, comfort-food recipes that are enjoyed by her family and friends, spattered with generous blobs of anecdote and humour.
Quick & Easy Sweet Treats follows on from The Lazy Cook Book 1 Quick & Easy Meatless Meals.
One of those rare cookery books that won't be left on the shelf, but will mature with well-thumbed age as its pages become patterned with stains of food, wine, cream, butter and all things delicious
"Susie Kelly has an easy laid back style, which I find very pleasant reading. Her descriptions and commentary are delicious, and I enjoy just browsing the book." US reader
The Lazy Cook Book 2 Quick And Easy Sweet Treats edition by Susie Kelly Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks
The Lazy Cook 2: Quick and Easy Sweet Treats is a cookbook with European flair, so you'll find recipes written using British terms, but the author neatly explained what the British ingredients meant. The author Susie Kelly has put a lot of thought in her cookbook as she does include information about diet (I loved her approach!); whether the recipe was vegan or used raw eggs. Overall, she has written a very nice cookbook. The only reason for a 4 star rating is I prefer the standard recipe format where the ingredients list is given and then the recipe directions follow. Her cookbook is written in a conversational style making her cookbook friendly and approachable. As a cook though I like to read standardized recipes. Some of the recipes you'll find include:Eton mess
Fromage blanc
Crumbles (In the US we call this Fruit Crisp I suspect)
Eve's Pudding
Chocolate peanut butter fudge
Scottish tablet
Singing hinny
Sponge flan
Note: The recipe titles are written as found in her cookbook.

The Lazy Cook Book 2 Quick And Easy Sweet Treats edition by Susie Kelly Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews
Great product! Thank-you for fast shipping. Great retailer. Will be using for my wedding cake business. Thank-you very much! THX
An interesting cookbook to read but I don't plan on trying any of the recipes. I find that authors from other countries use different terms for ingredients and cooking utensils than we do in the USA and it can get confusing.
Okay, so I haven't made any of the recipes yet. However, I will at some point. In the meantime, I have read through all of them and highlighted the ones I want to try. The book is worth reading in itself. It's got the right amount of humor and stories to keep your interest and makes me want to check out her other books.
Interesting recipes from an English author, but I, personally, would only make some since most are not my taste.
We make our own ice cream, so I’d use the violet , lavender, and Earl Grey ice cream recipes.
Highland Scottish Shortbread Cookies would make my list.
Scones, yes.
There’s a recipe for baking powder and self-rising flour.
The rest are only reading curiosities for me. 🥘
As a lazy cook myself, this added several recipes which I can tweak to my own liking. I enjoyed the stories which went along with many recipes as it's always fun to know how something comes about. One story left me wondering though... did the author get to keep her job after her first experience with Atholl Brose? Obviously a recipe I will have to try! This is a fun book to read, even if you don't try any of the recipes!
Our family is either constantly on the go or entirely too lazy to cook, so quick and easy is a must for us. The fewer the ingredients, the faster the cooking process or the ease of cooking always puts a new recipe at the top of the list.
We do not eat certain foods simply because we are picky eaters, not on "diets", so I'm always in the market for cookbooks to steal ideas from to liven up our family dinners and find new ways to cook pretty much the same things. I was able to get quite a few couple from this book, so I'm not going to knock it too much.
I am probably not going to run around recommending it to my friends, but I certainly do not regret purchasing it. This is one of those where I am just going to say "try it for yourself at your own risk" because I am simply indifferent on it.
Susie Kelly has an easy laid back style, which I find very pleasant reading. She has engaged in cooking for her family in Kenya, in France, and elsewhere and apparently has settled down in jolly old England. Her descriptions and commentary are delicious, and I enjoy just browsing the book. If she has written a personal or family biography, I would be interested in reading that, too. The slight inconvenience in converting her remarks and recipes to American English adds to the charm of the book.
I am planning to buy a few extra copies for my daughters. And, don't overlook her Book 1, which has more of the same charm. It is almost supper time and I am getting hungry!
